Prabhadevi Bridge, earlier known as the Elphinstone Road Bridge, is an important pedestrian link in central Mumbai connecting Prabhadevi on the Western Railway with Parel on the Central Railway. Built during the British era, the bridge has played a crucial role in daily commuter movement between the two railway lines.
The bridge came into national focus after the tragic stampede on 29 September 2017, which led to the loss of several innocent lives and highlighted the urgent need for safer infrastructure. Following the incident, authorities took swift action to improve pedestrian safety and crowd management.
