Scriptural Resources:
“Someone will say, “I am allowed to do anything.” Yes; but not everything is good for you. I could say that I am allowed to do anything, but I am not going to let anything make me its slave.” -1 Corinthians 6:12
"No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it." -1 Corinthians 10:13
“‘We are allowed to do anything,’ so they say. That is true, but not everything is good. ‘We are allowed to do anything’—but not everything is helpful.” -1 Corinthians 10:23
“Well, whatever you do, whether you eat or drink, do it all for God's glory.” -1 Corinthians 10:31
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" -2 Corinthians 5:17
“Be alert, be on watch! Your enemy, the Devil, roams around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Be firm in your faith and resist him, because you know that other believers in all the world are going through the same kind of sufferings.” -1 Peter 5:8-9
"Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.” -Ephesians 5:18
“Speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord.” -Ephesians 5:19
"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." -Galatians 5:1
“When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.” -James 1:13-15
“Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” -James 4:8
"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." -John 8:36
“Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise.” -Proverbs 20:1
“Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? Those who linger over wine, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine. Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper. Your eyes will see strange sights, and your mind will imagine confusing things. You will be like one sleeping on the high seas, lying on top of the rigging. “They hit me,” you will say, “but I’m not hurt! They beat me, but I don’t feel it! When will I wake up so I can find another drink?” -Proverbs 23:29-35
“Let beer be for those who are perishing, wine for those who are in anguish! Let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more.” -Proverbs 31:6 (context is important here. In biblical times, alcohol was used like medicinal marijuana is used today).
“Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister. -Romans 14:13 (read through 23 for more)
“For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age.” -Titus 2:11-12
