Jiangnan sizhu 江南丝竹 music from Shanghai, China: "Zhong Hua Liu Ban"《中花六板》

A performance of "Zhong Hua Liu Ban"《中花六板》(Moderately Ornamented "Six Beats"), one of the Eight Great Pieces (Chinese: Ba Da Qu, 八大曲) from the tradition of Jiangnan sizhu, supposedly performed in the style of Daoist music (Chinese: Dao qiang, 道腔). The key is C diao (C调).

The dizi (笛子, transverse bamboo flute with buzzing membrane) player is Ms. Fan Linfeng (范临风, b. Jiaxing, northern Zhejiang, 1992), a dizi professor at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. The other musicians are members of the Kangwen Guoyueshe (康文国乐社), a Jiangnan sizhu society that is based in Kangqiao Town (康桥镇), Pudong New Area (浦东新区), Shanghai:

● Mr. Bao Mingxing (包明星) - yangqin (扬琴, hammered dulcimer)
● Mr. Shen Genxing (沈根兴) - guban (鼓板, hardwood clapper and small drum)

Filmed at an event entitled Fan Linfeng and Her "Old" Friends: "Returning in Dreams to Huating" Jiangnan Silk and Bamboo Mid-Autumn [Festival] Elegant Gathering (范临风和她的“老”朋友们—“梦回华亭”江南丝竹中秋雅集), which took place at Bandu Cabin (半度雨棚, est. 2003), a music café in the 50 Moganshan Road (Chinese: 莫干山路50号), called "M50" for short, a contemporary art district in Putuo District (普陀区), Shanghai (上海市), east-central China, September 11, 2021. Huating County (华亭县) was the former name of Shanghai's Songjiang District (松江区), during the Tang and Song dynasties, which was a historical district with a rich cultural heritage.

Jiangnan sizhu (江南丝竹, literally "silk and bamboo [music] from the Jiangnan [region]") is a form of traditional ensemble music for string instruments, bamboo flutes, and percussion from the lower reaches of the Yangtze River basin, including Shanghai and parts of the adjacent provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang. Originating in the Qing Dynasty, such music was traditionally performed for wedding processions, with the musicians' instruments being adorned with elaborate and fanciful decorations.

In 2006 the tradition of Jiangnan sizhu, centering on Jiangsu province and the Shanghai municipality, was included in the First Batch of China's National-Level Intangible Cultural Heritage List (第一批国家级非物质文化遗产名录) by China's Ministry of Culture (中华人民共和国文化部, known since March 2018 as the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 中华人民共和国文化和旅游部). The sub-agencies responsible for maintaining these lists, both under the aegis of the aforementioned ministry, are the Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage (文化部非物质文化遗产司) and the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center (中国非物质文化遗产保护中心, CICHPC).

Additionally, the tradition of Jiangnan sizhu was subsequently included in the Intangible Cultural Heritage lists for the provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang, as well as the Shanghai municipality.
