Florida RIT Operations Group RIT Competition at Fire Shows West in Reno, NV.
A Rapid Intervention Team (RIT), also known as a Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC) or Fast Attack Team, is a specially designated group of firefighters tasked with being ready to immediately rescue other firefighters who become trapped, injured, or in distress during a fire or emergency operation. The RIT remains on standby outside the structure or incident scene and is equipped with the necessary tools and training to perform a rescue at a moment's notice.
Key responsibilities include:
Monitoring the status and location of firefighters inside the hazard zone.
Preparing specialized equipment, such as ropes, thermal imaging cameras, and breaching tools.
Deploying swiftly to rescue firefighters in trouble, often under extreme and hazardous conditions.
The RIT concept is vital for firefighter safety and is mandated by many fire departments as part of their standard operating procedures for structural fires and other high-risk operations.
