Question. Calculate the force of gravitation are earth on the ball of 1 kg mass lying on the ground? (Mass of earth = 6 x 1024 kg, Radius of earth = 6.4 x 103 km and G = 6.67 x 10-11 Nm2/kg-1)
Solution. F = GMm/r2
F = 6.67 x 10-11 x 1 x 6 x 1024
F = 9.8 N
Question. Two particles A and B of mass m1 and m2 respectively are placed on some distance. If the mass of each of the two particles is doubled, keeping the distance between them unchanged, the value of gravitational force between them will be.
Solution. F = Gm1m2
F = G 2 m1 x 2m2
F = G 4(m1 x m2 )
Question. The mass of sun is 2 x 1030 kg and the mass of earth is 6 x 1024 kg. If the average distance between the sun and the earth is 1.5 x 108 km. Calculate the force of gravitation between them.
Solution. M1 = 2 x 1030 kg
M2 = 6 x 1024 kg
r = 1.5 x 108 km = 1.5 x 1011
G = 6.67 x 10-11
F = G x m1 x m2 / r2
F = 2 x 1030 x 6 x 1024 x 6.67 x 10-11 .
