Writing the ups and downs of being a wife and mother – Jennie Linthorst

Jennie Linthorst uses poetry in a therapeutic way with clients. The purpose of writing is to unravel and uncover aspects of themselves. Jennie has used poetry since she was a teenager as a way of making sense of herself and her life.

She writes very honestly about aspects of her own family life, like her son’s special needs, like being a mum after losing her own mum and the ups and downs of married life, warts and all. She is afraid of the judgement the people she writes about might face from her readers, but what keeps her going is knowing that; “when I write in my most honest, it helps others feel less alone.” Knowing that also helps her get past the thoughts of ‘Why would anybody care to read my poems?’

She dislikes the marketing side of publishing a book. She is a reluctant social media user and yet has been successful in getting her poetry into the world by using a submission service for poets. She has made a conscious decision to surround herself with people who can help.
