"The Colour Out of Space" by H. P. Lovecraft | 1927 Cosmic Horror Classic

Stephen King's favorite Lovecraft story, and H.P. Lovecraft himself regarded "The Colour Out of Space" as one of his best works. In a letter to one of his correspondents, he said:

“It is the best story I have ever written.”

He believed the story's subtle, atmospheric horror and focus on an unknown, otherworldly force that couldn't easily be categorized made it stand out from his other works. Lovecraft often highlighted this tale as a prime example of what he termed "cosmic horror," a central theme in much of his writing.
