The National Memorial is located in Nabinagar, Savar Police Station, about 25 km from Dhaka. One of the reasons for choosing this place was that many mass graves were discovered here after the country became independent. This memorial was built to commemorate the Bangladesh Liberation War. About 64 acres of the acquired 84 acres of land are covered with green land. The memorial has been built on an area of ​​40 acres. On the first Victory Day in December 1972, the Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman laid its foundation stone. The construction of the monument was completed in August 1982. The main structure of the National Memorial was designed by architect Mainul Hossain. The main monument is made up of 7 triangular pillars made of concrete, which gradually rise from small to high. Its height is 150 feet. The first pillar is the smallest in height and the largest in width. It is meant to mark the beginning of the movement, i.e. the Language Movement of 1952. The next pillars represent 1954, 1958, 1962, 1966, 1969 and 1971 respectively. The highest pillar represents the victory of the Liberation War. The characteristic of this memorial is that it looks different from each side. It is not just a memorial. It is a complete complex. There is an attractive wide entrance, a good arrangement of car parking. On both sides of the entrance, there is an artificial water body, where the image of the memorial is reflected. There is also an open stage, a bridge, a flower garden, a reception center and a helipad, a mosque, a restaurant and a beautiful green-brown forest. In this forest, a collection of various types of fruit, forest and medicinal trees can be seen. A wonderful example of modern architectural design, people flock to see this memorial from morning to evening all year round.
