Those of you familar of the 1990 film Wizard starring Fred Savage of the Wonder Years fame knows where the idea of a Nintendo competition came from. It was called Powerfest 1990 presented by Nintendo.
In this clip from season 1 of Video Power (1990) Johnny Arcade takes a trip from New York to Hollywood, California for the Nintendo World Championships 1990 held at Universal Studios, Hollywood. Johnny gets an upclose scoop on a Powerfest participant ( Nicolas ) and one of the champions ( Jeff Hansen ). Also a grip of cameo appearences of 80s/90s television celebrities towards the end.
