Top places to visit in Panhavati:
Panchavati is the spiritual heartbeat of Nashik, a place where the air is thick with the fragrance of incense and the echoes of ancient hymns. For a family traveling from Pune, it is a journey into the pages of the Ramayana.
While our previous video detailed the mystical experience at Trimbakeshwar, this blog focuses entirely on the sacred temples of Panchavati and the family's journey from Pune.
🚗 We parked our car near Panchvati and booked a auto. He took 600/- to cover all below points.
🛕 Exploring the Temples of Panchavati
Panchavati (meaning "Garden of Five Banyan Trees") is where Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana lived during their exile. Here is the trail the family followed:
1. Kalaram Temple
This was the first stop. The temple is an architectural marvel built entirely of black stones.
• The Experience: The idols of Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana are also carved from black stone.
• For Kids: The large courtyard is relatively safe for kids to walk around while parents offer prayers.
2. Sita Gufa (Sita's Cave)
Located a short walk from Kalaram Temple, this is a narrow cave where Goddess Sita is said to have stayed.
• The Challenge: To reach the inner sanctum, one must crawl through very narrow, low-ceiling passages.
• Family Note: The husband and wife took turns going inside as the child was a bit hesitant about the dark, narrow spaces. However, the child was fascinated by the five ancient Banyan trees located just outside the cave entrance.
3. Kapaleshwar Mahadev Temple
Uniquely, this Shiva temple has no Nandi (the bull) at the entrance. The legend says Nandi gave Shiva advice here, and Shiva accepted him as a Guru. The temple overlooks the Godavari river, providing a beautiful view.
4. Ramkund & the Evening Aarti
The day ended at Ramkund, the holy tank where Lord Rama used to bathe.
• The Highlight: At sunset, the family sat on the steps for the Ganga Aarti. The sight of hundreds of floating lamps in the Godavari river left the child in complete awe. It was the perfect, serene end to their spiritual day.
5. Tapovan
In Tapovan, the "forest of meditation" located at the confluence of the Godavari and Kapila rivers, you can explore the sacred spot where Lakshmana is believed to have severed Surpanakha's nose. The area features serene attractions such as the Lakshman Rekha Temple, the Sita Agni Kund, and the All-Religion Temple, all set amidst lush greenery and ancient banyan trees.
💡 Quick Tips for Families
• Footwear: You will be removing your shoes frequently. Wear easy-to-slip-off sandals.
• Hydration: Nashik can be warm; keep coconut water or buttermilk handy for the little ones.
• Walking: Most temples in Panchavati are within walking distance of each other, but for a family with a kid, hiring an auto-rickshaw for the "Panchavati Circuit" is a life-saver.
