The Castaway Cowboy (1974)
This unique Disney adventure stars James Garner as Lincoln Costain, a Texas cowboy who is kidnapped and tossed overboard, eventually washing up on the shores of Kauai, Hawaii. Rescued by a struggling widow, Henrietta MacAvoy (Vera Miles), and her young son, Costain soon discovers that the family’s potato farm is being threatened by wild cattle and a greedy local businessman (Robert Culp) who wants their land. To save the farm, the Texan decides to turn the islanders into real "Paniolos" (Hawaiian cowboys) and start a cattle ranch. The film is a lighthearted and scenic blend of Western tropes and tropical beauty, featuring exciting cattle drives through exotic landscapes and James Garner’s signature charismatic wit.
