This is a song written by Ola Belle Reed. I certainly don't play it in many of the other ways I've heard. Much of my inspiration for creating my version of this song comes from @blainechappell5383 and Riley Baugus.
I'm playing a Gardner's Dulcimers Fretless "Minstrel Banjo" and am in standard tuning ( tuned down however ) - ask me in the comments for the exact notes and I'll provide them.
Over yonder in the graveyard, where the wild, wild flowers grow,
oh there she lay, my one true lover, gone from me, forevermore
Oh fairer than the sweetest flower, restless as the wildest wind,
born with a love as deep as the ocean, this was the gal that I did win
I left here there up in the mountains, the world to see, riches to gain,
when I returned, no earthly treasure could ease my heart so full of pain.
Oh over yonder in the graveyard, beneath that little mound of clay,
oh there she rests, my one true lover, so still beneath the flowers lay.
