This is the first wave of the flood defence repair work currently being undertaken in Porthcawl. The famous breakwater, initially built in 1820 and later extended in 1860, the internal structure still has its original wooden core that requires extensive renovation to withstand another 200 years of stormy seas. The breakwater is a world famous due to it being the subject matter of dramatic sea storm photographs as the waves crash over the lighthouse.
