A crash on Interstate 80 between Altoona and Des Moines closed the roadway for hours during a winter story in December 2019. The crash happened in the westbound lanes of I-80 between the East Mixmaster and Altoona. At least one person was seriously injured, according to Iowa State Patrol spokesperson Sgt. Alex Dinkla, who told KCCI about 50 vehicles were involved.
