Tonight’s reading is an introduction to the Apocrypha, offered as a soft-spoken ramble rather than a lecture.
I begin by sharing a quiet reflection on loneliness, the kind that settles in during long nights, and a prayer for righteousness—not perfection, not certainty, but the desire to live rightly even when clarity feels distant. This is not a sermon. It’s a companionable moment, meant to be listened to gently.
After the reflection, I begin reading the first three chapters of the Book of Tobit, one of the deuterocanonical texts often included in the Apocrypha. Tobit is a story of faith practiced in exile: quiet obedience, moral struggle, family devotion, and endurance when goodness does not seem to be rewarded immediately.
