Guillain-Barre Syndrome is an autoimmune, demyelinating condition that usually occurs after a respiratory or GI infection. The body makes antibodies to attack the offending bacteria or viruses. The same antibodies mistake molecules on the myelin or nodes of Ranvier foreign substances and attacks them. This leads to temporary paralysis of the limbs.
