The Pamela Smart case remains one of the most controversial true-crime stories in American history.
In 1990, Gregg Smart was murdered in his New Hampshire home by a group of teenagers. The triggerman, William “Billy” Flynn, was just 16 years old at the time and later testified that his relationship with Gregg’s wife, Pamela Smart, led him to commit the crime.
Flynn pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was released on parole in 2015 after serving 25 years. Pamela Smart, who admitted to the affair but denied planning the killing for decades, was convicted as an accomplice to first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole.
In this video, we break down:
Pamela and Gregg Smart’s relationship
The affair with a teenage student
The murder and investigation
The highly publicised 1991 trial
The teenagers’ plea deals and release
Pamela Smart’s continued incarceration and recent appeals
This documentary-style video presents the facts as established by court records, testimony, and public reporting. It does not sensationalise violence or advocate for or against any outcome in the case.
