The Naghash Ensemble - Hallelujah - LIVE at Theater De Lieve Vrouw Amersfoort 2025

The music of The Naghash Ensemble weaves together ancient Armenian texts with the sounds of today. Composer John Hodian was inspired by the spiritual poetry of the 15th-century mystic Mkrtich Naghash and created a musical style that amplifies the power and emotion of the texts. With a line-up of piano, duduk, ud, dhol and three impressive female voices, the ensemble sounds like an inspired cross-pollination of Armenian folk music, contemporary classical music, jazz and post-minimalism.
The Naghash Ensemble consists of top musicians who are deeply rooted in the Armenian musical tradition and at the same time trained in Western classical music. The combination of ancient poetry, captivating melodies and virtuoso performances has put the ensemble on the map internationally, performing at festivals and concert halls throughout Europe.
With this special performance, The Naghash Ensemble brings an impressive conclusion to the Musica Mundo Series 2025. The program includes highlights from Songs of Exile, the triptych about exile and spirituality. In addition, the ensemble will play new work from the project launched in 2025 Songs of Wisdom, based on the poetry of the 13th century poet Kostandin Erznkaci. A unique opportunity to hear the ensemble in a rich combination of old and new repertoire.
