The Swahili region stretches at the east coast of Africa from Kenya to the bottom of Tanzania.
BIRYANI is a mix of the native spicy rice dishes originating from India and the Persian pilaf. It is said that Mumtaz (the empress consort of Mughal Empire) once visited the army barracks and found the Mughal soldiers were looking weak and undernourished. She asked the chef to prepare a special dish that combined meat and rice to provide balanced nutrition to the soldiers – and the result was biryani of course!
Biryani was brought to the Kenyan coast from India.
