The QL muscle is dominated by the psoas and the diaphragm. Thus trying to address just the QL muscle can not work. It does work to stabilize the pelvis and ribcage in upright stance, but it plays a much more significant role in breathing. It's role is to fix the 12th rib so that our diaphragm can expand the ribcage for normal diaphragmatic breathing. But due to the left AIC pattern, our QLs can become overworked and painful because we lose the supporting structures: mainly the abdominal muscles, particularly on the left.
