Two of KiwiRail's DSC class diesel locomotives ~ 2515 and 2665 ~ shunting at Wellington railway station in New Zealand. This is a unique station, not just because it has the most platforms out of any station in the country (9 platforms), but it's also the only place in the North Island where you can still see locomotives on station pilot duties.
'Station Pilot' means a locomotive that is often used to shunt coaches into and out of station platforms. For reference, the current Wellington station opened in 1937, and is still served by three locomotive-hauled trains, namely the Capital Connection to Palmerston North, the Wairarapa Connection to Masterton and the Northern Explorer to Auckland. All three services are hauled by KiwiRail's DFB locomotives.
However Wellington station is mainly used by the Matangi electric units, which run the Metlink commuter services to Johnsonville, Melling, Upper Hutt and Waikanae. If you go trainspotting at Wellington station, most of the time you'll just see the Matangi trains.
