🧵🔍 In this short, I show how to turn an IR fork sensor into a 3D printer filament runout detector using an Arduino Mega 2560.
The sensor monitors whether filament is present, displays the status on a 4×20 I²C LCD, and sounds a buzzer when the filament runs out.
It also provides a latched output that can pause your printer automatically.
Perfect for preventing wasted prints when a spool runs empty!
💡 Features shown:
IR fork as filament-present/runout sensor
Real-time LCD display of state & events
Buzzer alert on runout
Latched output & pause signal for printer integration
