Choreographed for The Australian Ballet, ‘The Happy Prince’ premiered at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre in 2020.
This is a tale of a golden statue, a Prince, who together with the help of a tiny Swallow, sets out to rectify the injustice in his kingdom. In this adaption of Oscar Wilde’s short story, Graeme Murphy explores the meaning of sacrifice, redemption and love.
“Oscar Wilde’s The Happy Prince stimulated my childhood imagination a lifetime ago,” says Murphy. “This magical story of love and sacrifice will, I hope, inspire and delight another generation of dance-lovers, be they children or adults.”
