MARVEL INFINITE REWRITE -- The Complete Story Retelling -- Morkez Marihser

MARVEL INFINITE REWRITE is my retelling of the story mode of Marvel VS Capcom Infinite with an increased cast of characters that all get their time to shine, a larger set of threats for the heroes to face including more bosses and other villainous characters, a more coherent plotline where less is left unknown to the player, and better utilization of existing concepts and character pairings. All of this is presented in a pseudo-visual-novel format with narration, voiced dialogue, and on-screen indicators for the fights that will take place throughout. This video presents the entire project, including introductions, every chapter, and the bonus material.

This whole project started as a loose conversation on September 14, 2020. Me my good friend Waverunner reminisced on the original story mode and how a number of moments and ideas stuck with us while others went to total waste. And then we started a Google Doc on how it could have been better. Then I decided to make it more than just a what if...I decided to make it a story.

Now, it's eight and a half months later. The document is now 50 pages long. Thirty people have lent their voice. And the resulting video is as long as the Shining. All of it edited by me, though with a little help from Waverunner to render this in one piece. (Since my PC fan would have likely exploded.) I hope you all pay mind to the the time I spent making this a reality, to power through editing it in the space of a few months, pouring my heart and soul into it...

...okay, yeah. That last sentence was forced, even for me.

If there's one thing I want to impart with this project, it's this: When good ideas are presented in a piece of work that is overall poor in quality, those good ideas shouldn't be forgotten. A piece of work should not be discarded simply because it is flawed, or even extremely flawed. Our criticism should remember to point out the parts that DO work so they can be used again, rather than constantly point fingers at what DOESN'T work. The better parts can be taken out, reconsidered, and applied elsewhere where they can flourish. Just look at Ultimate Alliance 3 for proof.

Marvel Infinite was dealt a bad hand, there's no doubt about that. Chun-Li's face, the competition from Dragon Ball FighterZ, the Peter Rosas interview, EVO...but as a product, even a mixed bag like this deserves respect. It might not have had the time, funding, or care given like a lot of other projects do, but it wasn't devoid of effort. The gameplay still came out amazingly, and there were enough concepts from the original I was able to keep and reframe to be far more coherent. To the point where I treat the original game not as a stark failure, but a missed opportunity.

And even if everything I show you comes off as too "out there" for Capcom to have ever made, or you find yourself saying, "well it's easy for you to SAY what should have been done, try doing it yourself", or it just isn't your taste...just remember. This isn't about making something perfect. This is simply a way to make a flawed thing better. And who knows. Maybe if you end up in a position to use these characters, or any crossover...something can be taken to heart just to add that little extra touch of TLC. Maybe you might even do this better than me. And if so...I look forward to seeing it.
