Though Bill Cullen was deemed not to be physically fit enough to resume his gig hosting The Price Is Right upon its 1972 revamping, his work as a game-show host continued until his death in 1990. Bill had gotten into radio before getting into television. As a child, Bill suffered from polio. This resulted in the future game-show host having worsening physical symptoms over the remainder of his life. These symptoms were exacerbated by a car accident that the young man suffered at the age of 17.

Though Bill Cullen suffered from debilitating physical symptoms over the course of his life, it was actually smoking that caused the game-show legend to pass away.
