Derrida's deconstruction is a critical theory, which aims at interpreting texts and challenges the idea of a single, stable meaning. It exposes the instability of language by analyzing how meaning is constructed through the "difference" between words, a concept Derrida terms "différance".
Deconstruction works by exposing the inherent hierarchy in binary oppositions (male/female, presence/absence. good/bad, black/white) within a text to reveal its internal contradictions, suggesting that meaning is not fixed but is endlessly deferred.
Différance: This portmanteau word combines two meanings "to differ" and "to defer" in itself. It argues that the meaning of a word is not inherent but is produced by its difference from other words and is continually deferred
