The design of the Klingon Bird-of-Prey was inspired by a football uniform, with parts of the wings resembling shoulder pads and the front of the ship taking inspiration from a football helmet. This is apropos, since today’s guest, J.G. Hertzler, believes all Klingons are linebackers. Hertzler played several characters on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine but is best remembered as the Klingon General Martok. He’s released a memoir and he and I not only talked about Klingon football but also about his theatrical career, why he was threatened by the mob, and the unusual way he landed the Martok role.
