This model is 3D printed with accurate bulkheads and internal structures to slow flooding. It is 1:500 scale, sits a little high in the water and is top heavy. It was originally designed to split but I could not get it to work at this scale. I did not show the beginning of the sinking as it kept rolling over, once the forward compartments flooded it became more stable. This model does not account for the pre-impact list nor the list during the final plunge. It does however show quite well the (moving) pivot point and relative angle of the ship as it sank. My thinking is that the ship split right after the 2nd funnel collapsed.
I am working on a 1:250 scale version with much more detail and more accurate internal structures but it probably won’t be ready until the 107nth anniversary as I do this in my free time and am quite busy. I will be using magnets to replicate the strength of the hull (for the split), early tests showed that magnets were very reliable and repeatable. This model is designed to replicate the physics of the sinking in high detail, everything else is a secondary concern with this model.
