Make Your Outfit More Flattering in Seconds With The Rule of Thirds

I’m not a fan of fashion rules, but I can’t deny that knowing how to use the rule of thirds in an outfit can be a huge help when you have clothes that are not quite working together, but you can’t put your finger on why.

The Rule of Thirds is a concept commonly used in visual arts (painting, photography, and film) used to create dynamic or compelling images. It is basically an oversimplification of the Golden Ratio (also known as the Golden Mean), a concept commonly used in design and architecture to draw the eye to the point of most interest. Fun Fact, it is also very commonly found in nature, in seashells, the shell of a snail and even some plants. It can also be called the “Divine Proportion”.

Understanding the rule of thirds in fashion can help you create outfits that are more visually appealing regardless of your size or proportions, because it allows you to manipulate where the eye rests when someone looks at your outfit.

I think learning about fashion rules for women is fun because I’m a huge believer that once you know the rules, then you can make it a part of your personal style to break them. My guess is that you already instinctively use the Rule of Thirds when putting together an outfit!
