Rockbridge County and Buena Vista area schools will purchase new security equipment to enhance both outdoor and indoor safety across their campuses. Five Rockbridge schools received nearly $180,000 total in state funding as a part of the new round of School Security Equipment Grants announced by the Virginia Department of Education late last month. In Buena Vista, Enderly Heights Elementary received $74,426. Superintendent Heather Ault says the grant will fund a new system on doors that requires staff to gain access by swiping identification badges. School officials in both districts say the grant allows them to move forward with their plans without placing a significant financial burden on the divisions.
