Just a quick video on a critter that’s been giving me headaches since I started my home orchard almost five years ago. Today, I came across the infamous Plum Curculio on one of my tiny Methley plums. I have been trying to find one in the act for years.
This tiny beetle is a true nightmare to stone fruits such as plums, peaches, and cherries which I have in my orchard. They lay their eggs within the young fruit which in many cases causes the tree to drop the fruit. They leave a scar on the fruit and in peaches you usually find sap around the scar.
Please watch the entire video for a close look at the one that I was able to capture!
I have no idea how to combat this little menace. Are there any organic sprays that can be used to combat this insect? All ideas are welcome, please let me know in the comment section. Thank you!
