In this video, I’m taking a closer look at two rare and exciting palm trees recently added to my garden — Trachycarpus ‘Kinla Hill’ and Trachycarpus ‘Winsan’. Both were purchased from The Palm Grower, and this video is an honest first review for anyone considering these palms for a UK tropical or exotic-style garden.
On Southview House Exotic, I’m documenting the progress of transforming my garden here in the UK into a lush, tropical-inspired space, using hardy palms and bold foliage plants that can cope with our climate. In this review, I go through each palm in detail, looking at overall size, health, leaf form, trunk development, and value for money, as well as how they compare to more commonly grown Trachycarpus varieties.
I also share my initial thoughts on how Trachycarpus Kinla Hill and Trachycarpus Winsan might perform in a British garden, including their potential cold tolerance, growth habit, and long-term suitability for outdoor planting in the UK. These are not everyday palms, so if you’re looking to add something a little more unusual to your garden, this video should give you a useful first impression.
This isn’t a sponsored video — just a genuine review based on my own experience as I continue to build a tropical-style garden in the UK.
