How can city leaders help level the playing field for long-term planning around equity?
“Equity has more than one meaning: Land-use policy has been used to support a kind of financial equity for some communities and to destroy that kind of financial equity for other communities,” explains Jennifer Bradley of the Aspen Institute. “Now, we’re thinking about land use in a broader sense,” she adds—and allowing equity to mean “opportunity, and giving people what they need to flourish.”
In this conversation, Bradley speaks with Professor Sheila Foster of Georgetown University; Anika Goss, the executive director of Detroit Future City; and Paul Mogush, long-term planning manager for the city of Minneapolis.
This conversation took place at CityLab D.C., an event hosted by Atlantic Live in October 2019.
