You cannot grow bonsai in pots?
Hm.. I am not sure this is true. In fact, if you know what you are getting into, it is certainly possible to grow bonsai from seed in pots. There are a number of benefits to pot-growing bonsai that you might not have considered. And although growing Japanese Maple Bonsai from Seed in a pot might seem like an ambitious project, I show some Japanese maple Bonsai I have been growing for a few years from Seed. In a pot they do grow very well, but thickening is substantially slower than in the full ground.
If you wish to fatten up a bonsai trunk fast, growing in a pot is not for you. If you want to develop a delicate bonsai with small pruning scars, growing bonsai in a pot from seed might be for you.
