Blending is a phonemic awareness skill which facilitates early decoding. Blending is also is the strongest predictor of student readiness to read. In this video Diana Rigg demonstrates a range of ways to explicitly instruct blending, while proposing that blending requires heightened attention and tracking in the phase of preparing our students to read.
