I went to a local small-town wild game dinner where everything was prepared by locals and every single dish was wild game.
This wasn’t a sit-down meal — it was more like 50 different homemade dishes, all made from animals people harvested themselves. You could sample anything, go back for seconds, or try something you’ve never eaten before.
The variety was unreal, and everything was incredibly good.
For this dinner, I cooked cusk, crappie, and other fish, and on the table we had dishes made from:
• Deer
• Moose
• Bear
• Rabbit
• Squirrel
• Beaver
• Porcupine
• Grouse
• Fish
• And more wild game
This kind of event is what small towns do best — great food, great people, and a lot of stories behind every dish. Whether you’ve grown up eating wild game or you’ve never tried it before, this night was something special.
