How to Install HardieBacker Cement Board in a Bathtub Shower for beginners. Time and Materials Cost.

In this episode, Craftsman Connection will be installing 1/2" (.042") HardieBacker in a 30" x 60" tub shower area up to 60" above the tub height. You'll learn how to cut and install HardieBacker, James Hardie manufacturer's install requirements, code requirements, as well as what not to do, as a part of learning how to remodel a shower yourself.

The shower surround needs to be waterproof, and moisture resistant drywall is not allowed in the shower or tub shower surround per code requirements. You must first install a product like HardieBacker, or DuRock, and then apply a waterproofing such as Hydro Ban, or RedGard, or you can also install a foam backer board, and then seal all the screw holes and seal the joints, but it's not as ridgid as cement board is.
