Easy Vocal Warmup for Beginner Singers

Hi, I’m Abram from 30 Day Singer. Today I’ll cover some basic beginner vocal warm ups.

It's essential for any beginning vocalist to warm up before practicing any songs. This will help you find a more consistent technique and keep your voice healthy.

1) Sirens with Glides

Let's start by opening up our vowels and finding our resonance. Allow your voice to slide around a bit, feeling your lips and tongue moving up and down, while keeping your jaw, shoulders, and neck as relaxed as possible. Okay let's move this around the lower to middle range of our voice as a full exercise.

2) Support Exercise

Now let's start strengthening our voice with support exercises. This type of exercise will help you connect your voice with your lower abdominal breath pressure. If you blow against your hand like this you can feel your lower abdominal muscles gently engaging down and out. Now sing this exercise and see if you can feel these support muscles engage as you slide up and start to relax as your pitch falls back down. Try it again with me and make sure your head and neck isn't following you. Great! Let's take this a little higher than the last one, but make sure to stop if you are feeling too much strain or your head and neck is lifting. Reconnect with your lower body, drop into your breath and try again.
