Beaver Creek, outside of Chippewa Falls, WI, has a thriving black bear community. These video clips feature Dewey, one of the 2019 Triplets. As shown, Dewey has a tannish snout, and was one chubby cubby in his youth. However, during the second half of the 2024 Bear Year, Dewey had a noticeable growth spurt and is now rather stout.
The first clips show Dewey stopping by to hunt biting mites that had infested an old stump. Notice that black bears have excellent balance.
After which, Dewey is seen (i) scenting a crooked aspen tree; (ii) traversing a white spruce grove (black bears prefer to remain hidden, and white spruce provide excellent bear cover); and (iii) repositioning a game camera for us (Dewey is an aspiring photographer).
