Näckens Polska (original Swedish lute 1821)

Näcken (Swedish), Näkki (Finnish), Nøkken (Norwegian Bokmål) is a mytholigical frightening creature living in water. S/he is known in Scandinavian and German tradition. Näkki is the god of fresh water in Finnish folklore. He is said to lure children and young people into the water, where s/he drowns them. Näkki is a shapeshifter who usually appears in human or animal form, sometimes as a stone, a pickaxe, or a log. In Norwegian and Swedish tradition, Näkki often plays the violin and teaches how to play, but in Finland this has usually been the work of the devil. My instrument is original Swedish lute ("Lutha") made by Lorents Mollenberg 1821! The tuning of the instrument is A, B, c#, d, e, f#, g#, a, b, c#1, d1, e1, a1, c#2, e2.
