Dewatering is a process used to facilitate the gas coming up from the vent wells. Water is pulled from the MRAA through this process. Lots of water. There are concerns that this process can cause subsidence above the normal subsidence we already have. DNR wants to run a test using this dewatering process on the vent wells when they stop or slow down producing gas to see if the well is really depleted, or if the dewatering revives the well. The residents concern is basically that these test are only a first step towards attempted forced dewatering, whether we want it or not, thereby threatening the homes and property of those still living in Bayou Corne. We have been assured all along that nothing will be done to create further damage to the area, much less our homes and property. The meeting covers this discussion.
