La Voix du France - The Voice of SS France / Norway

Après 40 ans d'une vie bien mouvementée, notre cher paquebot France n'est plus. Perdu sur une plage du sud de l'Inde, mangé petit bouts par petit bouts, il a été transformé en fers à béton pour la construction locale.

Malgré tout, un certain nombre d'objets issus du navire ont pu être sauvés. Certains sont mythiques, comme les panneaux de décoration, d'autres, plus discrets, comme le mobilier ou les instruments de navigation.

Beaucoup de ces objets, rassemblés au fil des ans par un collectionneur aventurier, ont été dispersés lors dune vente publique organisée par Artcurial, à Paris, le 8 Février dernier. J'étais à cette vente et je me suis porté acquéreur de l'une des deux dernières « sirènes », ou corne de brume, du France.

Je suis désormais l'heureux et le très fier propriétaire de la « voix du France », un son puissant à la tonalité très basse et qui permettait d'identifier sans faute le navire quand il s'annonçait devant Le Havre.
Ma collection est désormais riche d'un élément du patrimoine national et je compte le valoriser en tant que tel.

Cette vidéo a pour but de présenter cet objet exceptionnel, qui n'avait quasiment plus fonctionné depuis Bremerhaven, en Mai 2005, et qui a gardé toute sa puissance.

After fourty years of a rather rough life, the cruise ship SS France/Norway is "ship no more". Lost on a lonely Indian beach, the old lady is now shredded to bits of steel that will become concrete bars for the local building industry.

Despite all odds, many items from the ship have been salvaged, some by a globe-trotter collector who has picked them up in India and around the world. This collection has been sold in Paris, at a public auction, set up on the 8th of February, by the auction house Artcurial.
I was there and had the chance to buy one of the last two whistles from the ship.

I am now the happy and very proud collector of SS Frances voice, a powerful sound with a very low pitch that made the ship so distinctively noticeable when she announced her arrival in port.
My collection is now richer, with an element of our national heritage, and I intend to highlight it as such.

The goal of this video is to present a rare object, which has been kept deaf since Bremerhaven, in May 2005, and that has kept all its powerful voice!!!
