AR Rahman is truly one of the biggest musical legends the industry has ever witnessed. With a career that spans over 30 years of entertaining the audience and gifting the country some of the best music albums, he is an icon. And now with his Wonderment tour starting soon, he sat down with me for a chat on my channel. In this candid interview with Nayandeep Rakshit, Rahman sir looks back at his early days - dealing with days he didn't have any money, battled financial lows and poverty, lost his dad at an early age and started work really early. He also commended his mother for standing by his life choices - whether it was his passion for music and deciding to not send him to school or his decision to change his religion and adopt Islam. He reveals he made a statue for her after she passed away. Rahman also opens up about the several perceptions he dealt with from the start with many even questioning his musical abilities. He reminisces creating Maa Tujhe Salaam and how the industry had polarising opinions on the same, and also revealed how an agent told him he would be fired from Slumdog Millionaire by director Danny Boyle. He also finally broke silence on his family, trolling that happened post his divorce with his wife and how daughter Khatija handles the social media negativity on her hijab with absolute command and power.
