After the fall of Atlanta, Maj. Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman turned his attention to the capture of Savannah. On Nov. 15, 1864, he and his army embarked on what became known as the March to the Sea. Among the staunch Confederate defenders who stood in the way was William Wimberly of Talbot County. Here's his story.
