Experienced mama Fax Error, already mother to many including Branches (2022), Mixy (2023), and PJ (2024), came to the waterhole with her new baby Ink Jet (2026).
Naming zebras is not a frivolous thing: it helps us remember who's who and quickly identify those with unusual markings. For example, "Hook" has a hook-shaped stripe on each side. "Victoria" has a big "V" on each side. "Fax Error" — if you're old enough to remember faxes, you'll see it on her left side.
The human brain retains names much more readily than numbers, especially if those names are familiar. By naming the zebras we have been able to learn much more about them as individuals, and how they relate to each other, than we would have otherwise.
