On 6 May 2025, OHCHR and UNHCR convened a half-day expert workshop to showcase best practices in the promotion of equal nationality rights in law and in practice, pursuant to Human Rights Council Resolution 53/16. The workshop sought to raise awareness and foster dialogue on the right to a nationality and its intersection with other human rights, particularly the rights to equality and non-discrimination. It also provided a platform for representatives from States, civil society, academia, NHRIs, UN entities, IOs and others to explore key challenges, share successful approaches, and identify practical ways forward to address and prevent discrimination in nationality laws, policies and practices as well as statelessness more broadly.
