FRANCE - the mountainous area east of Lyon is home to a surprising number of loco-hauled passenger operations using Class BB22200 locomotives. We take a tour of the area along the route from Grenoble north to the junction at Culoz and beyond. Electric units, freight, diesel units, and TGVs are also seen in action in this picturesque area of the country.
SLOVENIA - a look at train action along the Sava River Valley towards the border with Croatia. This surprisingly busy main line sees a constant flow of passenger and freight services. We begin near Dobova where Croatian locos are seen going about their business as well as Slovenian and Austrian locos. Diesel shunters appear on station pilot duties and also a local trip freight is seen. Grain trains dominate the freight traffic with Taurus and Vectron variants providing the typical power. Electric units appear on local passenger services, where class 541/1216 are typical types seen on loco-hauled trains.
NETHERLANDS - the Plan Z electric units are now nearing the end of their working lives, we go in search of these trainsets near Amersfoort.
GERMANY - we visit the very busy freight and passenger line linking Braunschweig with Magdeburg. A whole host of freight train types are seen involving a wide selection of locomotives, including 143, 145, 146, 147, 151, 193, 386 and 185. A class 640 diesel unit also appears.
HUNGARY - we pay a return visit to the busy Budapest-Kelenfold station which we last visited in Issue 105 of this series - another fine bag of train types on all manner of workings.
