Brown dwarfs are mysterious objects that form like stars do, but fade to resemble gas giant planets like Jupiter. Dr. Emily Rice is an astronomer, professor, and creative science communicator in the Department of Engineering Science & Physics at the College of Staten Island of the City University of New York (CUNY). She is also a resident research associate in the Department of Astrophysics at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH). Dr. Rice explains how studying the atmospheres of brown dwarfs, particularly the ones less than 100 million years old, helps us to understand gas giant planets around other stars.
