Using a shim when sharpening a 3.5mm thinner Figure Skate blade. Most are usually about 4mm. Hockey are normally 3mm thick. Using a shim gets the two adjustment handles mid range.
The shim in the video often is installed non notched side towards the user; opposite of video. It works either way.
