A homage to Aaron Shearer's monumental book, 'Classic Guitar Technique' - As a young student in the 90's my first teacher, David Sussman, took me through this book and it made such an impression on me. I loved the pieces, the gradual development, and was deeply inspired by Shearer's insights.
"How you practice is the one most important factor in your study of music and the guitar. Thoughtful practice habits applied regularly each day with enough time will assure you of success. Cultivate the enjoyment of knowing you are correctly learning to play one of the most beautiful and personal of instruments."
"The student is advised to review carefully and continuously the material presented on this page until the right hand fingers move with a reasonable degree of accuracy and freedom. Progress will be faster and easier if the fingers are properly trained from the beginning."
Six original pieces by Aaron Shearer from his book; 'Classic Guitar Technique.'
Preludes No. 3 and No. 4 are beautiful little studies which introduce the student to the use of rest-stroke for the melody while lightly accompanying with the thumb.
Etude No. 4 1:09 is great for working on preparing/planting arpeggios and also introduces the "guide" finger concept.
Prelude 10 1:32 (Prelude 11 - Kitka edition) Great for developing tremolo, left-right hand coordination, speed, and articulation.
Prelude 12 1:51 (Prelude 14 - Kitka edition) A beautiful arpeggio study with bigger left hand chords and is also great for working on preparing/planting right hand arpeggio's.
Prelude 19 2:16 (Prelude 21 - Kitka edition) Perhaps the best piece by Shearer in this book, and a bit reminiscent of Carulli and Sor.
Guitar: Masaki Sakurai Concert R (1999)
Strings: D'addario EJ45
